Anyone have thoughts on the spelling of pre-come or just come in general? Preferences for the c-u-m version or not?

Writing in modern voices in so disconcerting now

I loathe "cum." It seems giggling-behind-your-hands-because-we're-talking-about-dirty things sort of spelling.

Yeah I don't really like it either. But then pre-ejaculate is far too formal. Even for Rene wqho absolutely refuses to say anything more current than 'dick'.

Oh dear. You've hit that thing that makes me get all twitchy. One might say I have "come issues."

For me, personally, I think "come" is preferable to "cum" unless you're writing hardcore sleazy modern stroke stories of the nifty.org variety. If you're aspiring to anything beyond "Penthouse Forum," I'd avoid "cum."

That said, I am vaguely allergic to "come" as a noun. As a verb, I'm right there with it. As a substance, for some reason, it unnerves me. I guess I'm ok with it in contemporary tales, but in anything period it makes me twitch.

"Pre-come" or "Pre-cum," however, I cannot abide. Some people freak out when they find the word "prostate" in their porn. I freak out about Pre-cu/ome. To me, it sounds both clinical and unsexy.

Your mileage may vary, of course. And I'll still read anything you write even if there's cum and pre-cum in it. :)

Huh. Is semen too clinical? How about pre-ejaculate?

Because I'm honestly really not used to modern voice. And I might go crazy with the opportunity to call things by their proper names.

That being said. I hate it when people write penis in the middle of a sex scene.

Gah. I hate that word.

I don't mind either way. I think it depends a lot on what the tone of the fic is. In gay porn, written by and for gay men, you see cum along with a few other colorful terms: jizz, load, spunk. I think there's an erotic spike for gay men to read the words. I'm not saying it's that way in slash. But I've read it both ways. Sometimes come is right for the story and sometimes cum is.
I think it's the authors call.

i've said spunk before. but you know, it's never occurred to me to say jizz.

jizz.

now starts the debate in my head whether rene would say this.

ARGH I HATE CUM! The spelling, not the substance. Although the substance ain't pretty, either... ;)

Please not cum. It makes me want to be sick.

Well, not as bad, but it reminds me of all the BAD pornsites out there. And when you spend hours haunting for good pornsites with nice pics to manip, you HATE bad pornsites.

the consensus is pretty much anti-cum.

that was a really formal sentence to announce that. :)
