James?

([personal profile] rispacooper Nov. 21st, 2006 07:53 pm)
Not that any IOS movie will ever get made. (I mean *honestly*. But just imagining it--of course without stupid Hollywood interference--makes me all swoony). So no film will ever get made. But for no reason at all I like to prowl around the BBC sometimes looking for suitable actors (and yes, if it were ever made it would be BBC/maybe BBC/A&E or some Canadian company...).

Anyway, so those who watched the awesome HBO movie "Elizabeth" may remember Mr. Hugh Dancy as whiny wittle Essex. He has also had some small parts in American films, "The Sleeping Dictionary" (hot), "Ella Enchanted" and apparently he was in "Black Hawk Down" (must watch again).

He's a little short to be the Jamesey James and sometimes he looks more..hm..pretty than handsome. But nonetheless he's close.

I just need a pic with glasses.

Plus, he was in King Arthur! Gets my vote. But we're gonna have to give him highlights because he's a wee bit dark. Um, I'll do it.

He's a blondie in the Sleeping Dictionary. Being all uptight and yummy British too...until he gets seduced.

So...blond highlights...and some heels to make him a wee bit taller.

And then we'll just get a teeny guy to play the Nene.

Yes. Yesyesyes. He is worrisome. I would ideally like him to be French, but I don't watch a lot of French film, and also the French are slightly less gay positive than say, weirdly, the Spanish. Maybe a Spanish actor, someone from around the borders.

*am crazy*

From: [identity profile] pir8fancier.livejournal.com

Ooooh yes, because there is something very blood thirsty about the Spanish. Close to the border is good enough.

and what's really strange is that they could cast almost anyone as etienne and all i would really care about is the voice. for some reason etienne has an amazing voice in my head. smooth like cognac, but not as heavy.

hmmm brandy. etienne speaks like brandywine.

You'd have to find two brothers, no? Because if I remember correctly, he looks VERY like Rene but younger and not as hardened. Yes?

yes. and he plays up the pretty more.

*whispers* and he's cleaner

I've been meaning to tell you for a while now, btw, how much I like your Draco. And I'm saying that as someone who has the barest possible understanding of the actually canon that he comes from. Your adult Draco. I like him a lot actually. And this might sound weird seeing as you're published and much wiser, but I was wondering why don't you just do your own original slashy mystery thing?

I mean, do a mystery but with some sexy and a flamboyently awesome Draco type lead. There *has* to be an audience for that (judging from your fans, I'd say yeah) and if there isn't you could make one. San Francisco alone would love you. :)

Because I was thinking about how much I enjoyed bratty drunk Draco bitching about cheese of all things. Totally sophisticated yet getting into a hissy fit over someone he swears he doesn't like and doing immature spells on his friends...and then solving a mystery. (No weirder than any other sleuth. They tend to be odd characters to begin with). And then I was thinking about your complaints about your RL writing.

I could never do RL writing in that way. At least not at this point in my life. I mean I could...but I have absolute no interest in it. So I write what I want. And it sounds like you get stalled a lot in the same way.

I dunno. Maybe you could try that, see what happens. I know the market, in fantasy and sci fi now at least, is including a lot more smut, though you dont have to keep all of that. (though it's totally hot, and I enjoy his filthy mouth).

Just a notion. Even if you just published it online, it would be worth reading.

Rene and personal hygiene issues. Yeah, that's why got off on the bath scene so much. You KNOW James has been dying to wipe off the grime for months.

Re a novel. Actually, the reason why I can channel a bitchy Draco is that he's not far off from my protagonist in my mystery novel (and, um, me). But it's a VERY interesting thought. I actually plotted out a Harry-driven mystery with Draco coming in as a detective type. But it was REALLY serious. I can toss off humor like it's nothing, but if I had to write like you, I'd probably hang myself.

I think I"m just bored with the book. I wrote it for a "cosy" market and while it's a tad dark for a cosy market, there's little sex. And the restrictions of the standard mystery novel get to you aftera while. I've toyed with writing a thriller because I want to play with different points of view. I should make an effort and finish it this Christmas. I get forced time off over the holidays and it would be one less albatross around my neck.

If I wrote a slashy, wizard novel I might actually finish it. There isn't a market for any books these days. But I could publish it online myself. Why not? My Draco is so far off from the canon Draco that I think I could actually get away with it. Plus I could sprinkle little bits in from MY vision of Draco, like his thing about blue food, the chocolate condoms, and it would be an inside joke to those in the slash world.

There are a few people writing mystery novels writing gay protags. Probably the most successful one is Greg Herren out of New Orleans. His books are good and funny. He protags are OPENLY gay, like in one of his books his protag tabletop dances for money, so there is a limited market. I don't know. Maybe a gay bitchy wizard would fly. It might be fun to see how MUCH of the Potter universe I could get away with.

Hmmm. Food for thought. Not that I could use my current publisher. She's a Stanford grad with about a zillion degrees and I think she'd be suitably horrified. But if I publish something like this online, what does it matter?

How did you go about copyrighting IOS?

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

*cough* yeah... yeeeeah about that. it's not. not really. pooky put it up there so people would be intimidated into not copying me. basically. *cough*

i know shit about copyright law.

if you're bored with the book then your readers will be too. that's always my fear, there are parts of stories i have had to fight to write because they bore me. i am just flat out not interested so i try to skip that as much as i can. basically the only way i get through it is by putting a bit of porn or cuddles after the boring bits so i will get to them to write what i want.

From: [identity profile] pir8fancier.livejournal.com

Unfortunately, I agree with you. When people ask me how to get published and should they write the HOT thing (like that vogue for serial killer thrillers), well, only if you want to.

I agree, your boredom just leeches onto the page. It's kind of become a personal thing with me though. I'd like to finish it, even it is shitty (which it will be) just so I can be done with it. I have a real problem with completing things. I need to hear from my publisher, nope, we are not interested (and I doubt they even know I'm alive at this point), so I can move onto something else and write legitimate stuff for potential sale. Not the porn I love so dearly. I don't know what the market is for graphic novels. I think you need to have a bunch of great drawings to make it work. Since my drawing skills are pretty much limited to stick figures, I don't think I have a hope in hell of selling something graphic, but there MUST be a market out there. The B&N in San Ramon has four entire shelves devoted to it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That copyright stuff. Too funny. Although you SHOULD copyright it.

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

um...there are some graphic novels that incorporate a lot of actual prose in them, and some that are based on written novels. but yeah, i wish i could draw too.

the league of extraordinary gentlemen is a pretty awesome set of graphic novels. (not like the movie at all, trust me). but mostly i read yaoi if i read them at all, so i don't really know much.

besides, we like the thinky too much, and you'd need a really good artist to portray all that delicious angst

Yeah, I just love words, you know?

I just meant that graphic novels seem IN right now. I couldn't put one together for the life of me. But it's nice to think that there's a venue for smut.

See Bond on Friday, CAN'T WAITS!
