**BTW, where does the phrase 'gakked' come from? Anyone know? Usually I can guess word origins, but this one is a little odd.**

That which is somewhere between stolen and borrowed; to commit an act somewhere between stealing and borrowing. Formed by an unknown word formation process.
[The actual origin of ‘gakked’ has not been studied, but a hypothesis can be posited. The first shift in forming the word is phonetic, rather than semantic. The ‘j’ in ‘jacked’ became hard, thus shifting the the ‘g.’ The sound represented by ‘kk’ and ‘ck’ are identical in this case; the spelling likely shifted either for aesthetic reasons, or perhaps in a manner tied to the community originating the word.]

‘Gakked’ is a computer term, and it is faster to type a double letter than two that are different, which well explains the substitution. ‘Jacked’ itself has long been a euphemism for ‘stolen;’’ the reasons for this are unknown. The spelling shift may also have reflected a change in meaning. Now, while ‘gakked’ does imply ‘borrowed without permission,’ it is unique in carrying the connotation that the original owner would not mind. This explains the need for its formation; it identifies origin while informing others who might stumble upon that which has been ‘gakked’ that the owner will not mind. It tends to apply to text or memes; intellectual property that can be shared without detracting that which the owner has. It, too, does not seem to have moved out of the computing community."
