Or at least, why are internet people so much more annoying than regular people? What is it? Is it the lack of a solid, physical face to punch in? The intense dissatisfaction that only a lack of such closure can bring? The drifting, ephemeral nature of the net itself that allows them to tell lies, claim non-existant friends, or change identities to harrass you under a new name without having to ever bother to prove a damn thing? These things can be done in real life too, in the harsh flourescent glare of a crappy day job.
And yet online bitches are truly bitches. Petty personalities and RL losers with tiny dicks or tiny minds can somehow reign supreme over a community of perhaps two hundred (and most of them lurkers). And yet it hurts, it wounds, it fucking stings that in this place, the place where at first we were welcomed, where others understood our interest and laughed with us regardless of nationality or sexuality or any other ality the kids want to name these days, that in this place we felt at home, someone can make us feel less. That some ass takes the time, makes such an effort, to dominate, to voice an opinion on every little matter, to crowd others' small moments of glory and make them their own by throwing out complaints and criticisms when none were asked for. I am an old-fashioned girl at times, and one who demands courtesy. Honesty and intregity and the sense to know when to hold your tongue. I was raised with values that stand in place whether I am typing my thoughts or speaking them, and I cannot stand bullies and I can cannot stand internet drama queens who think they own a fandom or a particular point of view.
I have been punished for that, online and otherwise, and it has not stopped me. I see it being done to others, to shy people, shy even here, new to the net, to fandoms, to fanfiction, to the idea of open discussions, and I will not stand for it. What is it about internet dictators that is so irritating? That they exist everywhere? That they make you realize once again that even a winking Utopia cannot exist because the brown monkeys don't like to share things with the silver monkeys? It's heartbreaking. And yet what is there to do but fight them? Challenge them on the little things, on every random grammar correction and thought correction and you're not like me correction and I am smarter than everyone correction and turn what was a peaceful place into a warzone. People will survive, sadder, bitter about what this place is but ready to start a new community, until it happens again. They shouldn't have to but they will. And some will be angry with me, with people like me, for not just letting it be. For ruining their fun. I could have just ignored it.
Like when an open, adult forum with posted warnings gets censured by a member</>, who had the choice to stay or go or read or delete, for lust for immorality. When people on a tv fanfiction mailing list declare that anyone who disagrees with them politically will be kicked off. When a work of writing, posted with summary and warnings, is attacked as obscene by angry, frigid readers who flocked in droves to read such smut and then tear the writer to shreds for years afterward, then yes, it's fucking time to create a warzone. I am sorry. I am sorry that it has to be. Laissez-faire sure as hell doesn't work, and isolationism is just a sad old man jacking off in a closet.
So why are they more annoying? Who the hell knows? One would think that in a world where everyone can carefully watch what they say and proofread before sending that arguments would end quickly, but that is not the case. They are, perhaps, no more or no less annoying than bitches in real life. Perhaps. Maybe they are worse, because they destroy the fantasy. And there is nothing so fucking awful as that.
People are going to wonder if this is directed at anyone in particular...
Go ahead.
Fucking wonder.

It was a proud day when you told off those annoying women on mailing list. And people wonder why you write kink when you carry this frustration around :P Down with the internet dictators who have driven me flame wars in the past because they were mean to someone else. Ah well, wank is a part of fandom I guess.
