'Men know damn well what it’s like for women to be afraid to move about freely. Every time my boyfriend leaves me alone he yells, “Make sure all the doors are locked!” We all know why. Men know.'
Interesting blog entry here and read the comments and threads.
And shouldn't we objectify them in return? And make them feel uncomfortable, and make them feel fear? And is that a bit wrong? But oh so funny, when male coworkers whine about getting hit on by creepy stalkerish gay man, when every single creepy icky male customer including one actually on a sex offender database wants to stop and talk to you? But would objectifying even work? And why do men get so bloody upset and squirmy when rape gets mentioned? Is it collective guilt over the privileges they know they have? If the math works out to 1 in 25 American men is a rapist/attempted rapist/future rapist or attempted rapist, then do they realize just how fucking normal it is?
"Yeah, most people say this. I don’t buy it. I think the “average guy” assumes that (i) she’ll lust specifically after him; (ii) he’ll still be in control of when/where/how, and will be able to turn off the objectification if it’s unwanted; (iii) the “average gal” who’s doing the objectifying will be someone he finds attractive; and (iv) there will be no repercussions - that is, he will still be treated exactly the same otherwise."
Oh I think we can sexually harass men better than that.
