*onto a less sad topic*
Running a fanfic Recs page...my whole life is fanfic author appreciation. But I am also lazy and slow to update, so I know there are certain authors who have not yet had their praise. The Horatio Hornblower fandom in particular has been ignored because I lost all my links to their stories, and have not yet gone around to find them again so I can complete that page of recs. I am sorry. And some fandoms I no longer read, so even though they have most deserving authors, I just am not recc'ing there anymore. (Sentinel, this means you).
But, off the top of my head. Good authors: The Spike (Smallville, Buffy, LA Confidential et all) dark, sick, twisted, nasty HOT porn. writing skills to die for. seriously. Te (Smallville, many others) Capable of hot hot hot or sad sad sad. Sometimes both, which I also find amazing. Gemma Files (original fic, Gangs of New York, Mutiny on the Bounty, LA Confidential) understands Bill the Butcher's dark desires in a way that ought to be frightening. MissKittie (Horatio Hornblower) wonderfully *natural* love scenes that I won't even describe as porn. Unearthly. has a thing for masks, I like that in an author. :) Reckless (The A-Team) makes post traumatic disorder hot, makes deep emotional pain look easy to write. knows the difference between rape and non con, and still can write a spoof that makes me cry with laughter to this day. Thamaris (Smallville, Bible, just about anything). Hot, meaningful blasphemy. Jane St. Clair (Rareslash, POTC) Pain pain pain! and love to soothe it away. Redorchard (POTC) Gentle and funny and loving. And funny. Did I say funny? Debchan (Smallville, Buffy, Firefly et all) of the same class as The Spike, the best of the best. makes me read for fandoms when I've never even seen the show. Blue Fenix (SAJV, Dumas, rareslash) lovely and breathtaking. Loves costume dramas. Loves emotional pain and a good, tormented man. *purr* Cara Chapel (Sentinel, Man from UNCLE, Due South et all) a kinky, kinky bitch. I want to marry her and bear her children. Illyana (Original, Mulan, A-team) don't think I had forgotten you, my darling. Another kinky wench the world ought to embrace with open arms. Irene Adler (Sherlock Holmes) someday, someone ought to make a movie of Holmes based on her stories.
I am skipping Hornblower again. But I can't remember details off the top of my head. I know there's another dirty little ho named Heather(heh heh) and the rather incredible Tanacawyr and someone else who wrote something with masks...Clotho? I beg forgiveness ladies. :) I really must finish that page.
