Oh it's just so precious. Though, as always, it's really the comments on Fandom Wank itself that amuse me. http://sites.google.com/site/kerfluffleinc/Home/page-1

Honestly, yo, worrying about the reaction your work has gotten is normal. Being a whiny, privileged little bitch is not. Of course, on the other hand, your statements amuse me greatly. So thanks for that. Now humble thyself, and remember why you started writing in the first place.

Also, yeah, what is whumping? Is it a hurt/comfort thing? Or does it actually mean whiny humping? heheh. Nobody wants a whiny humper. (Unless it is really is Rodney McKay I guess).

Initially, I just passed on this with a little, god, ego problem much? And then tonight, rispa, my peeps are aching. Just so much crap happening to people... Then I got mad and started feeling, well, less charitable.

I have done this flounce myself, in my head, although my flounce is more directed at myself. (i.e. I must be a horrible writer and I should never have posted that... I should just stop writing etc...) Not once have I yelled at others for not commenting enough. Seriously, what an ungrateful bitch. She doesn't deserve sympathy.

Though I doubt she ever once thought her queen moment would end up on Fandom Wank.

Haaaaaaaahaha, I know, right?

I don't remember reading anything by her, but from what I understand, she was a fairly popular writer. So WTF IS UP WITH THIS PERSON. Just... Fandom Wank always reminds me why I don't really have any faith in the human race in general anymore.

And I have to second the bit about whiny humpers and Rodney McKay. I do think whump is a hurt/comfort thing. Though last time I checked everyone was simply using the term 'hurt/comfort'. I don't know.

PS: I love how my flist is exploding with this XD

There are plenty of awesome fans out there! We just don't have a Fandom Awesome community to remind us!

From: [identity profile] sinjah.livejournal.com

Yeah, I know, I'm just being a cynical misanthrope ;) That would totally be a cool community though XD

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

Well that is what reccers are for? To point out when others in the fandom world do something awesome.

Maybe I ought to dig up some recs today?

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

Seriously! I've written a hundred page stories and gotten three comments and been like WOO HOO!!!! I'm really sort of glad society just slapped her.

Now it needs to slap all those people who said they were sorry for not commenting enough. Like, how dare they have lives or be distracted or just not be into that particular fic or maybe just not notice it had gone up yet????

From: [identity profile] dlasta.livejournal.com

The worst part is that she's not actually a horrid writer. Little indulgent and...you know, in need of therapy, but still, kinda good if you only judge the writing.
(Though, I now feel like a right idiot for leaving any feedback.:)

Whumping is when the writer puts her OTC through basically everything from hang nail to alien abduction for the sake of 'plot'.

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

Ah. Yeah, she really went out of her way to make her readers feel like douchebags. For, you know, reading the stories that she voluntarily and for free put out there and actually writing in to comment on reading.

I'd wondered why everyone in SGA was suddenly talking about commenting, and also why that writer had deleted her journal, but I hadn't made the connection. Serves me right for not keeping up with Fandom Wank.

As others have said, what's really crazy is that she got a ton of comments on most of her fic. I can think of one or two stories that had four pages of comments, and I'm pretty sure everything she wrote had at least a couple. And as she points out, *600 people* had friended her because of her fic. How much fucking validation does she need?

"Whump" is weird. I've really only seen it in SGA. I think some people use it for any hurt/comfort, but in SGA there's definitely a group of people in it mostly for the hurt. Like, when a character gets beat up physically or emotionally on the show, there are fans in SGA who are super-excited about the "whump". It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with comfort.

From her remarks and from her apparent interest in whumping, I'd guess there's a big, cavernous empty hole inside of her and not amount of imaginary pain or fic comments are ever going to fill it. I don't think she's figured that out yet though.

Huh. Now I actually feel a little sad for her...but only if she's self-aware enough to learn from this experience. Maybe don't base all of yourself on fan reaction. Maybe she ought to write her whumping for herself. I'm all for fanfic being used to work out personal issues. (It is cheaper than therapy).

Yeah, when the writers know they're doing it.:)

Sardonicsmiley however, had a metric ton of fic where completely under appreciated poor Rodney got abuse and pain until mean bad people understood how awesome he was and changed their mean ways. (Or saved him from the abuse, whatever. You get my drift.:)

From: [identity profile] rispacooper.livejournal.com

Ah that explanation makes a lot of sense.

Way back when I read Bonanza fanfic (yeah...I know...just...yeaaah) there were these vicious harpies who would attack slashers (for any show) all the time and go on about perversions...and then write these REALLY DISTURBINGLY DETAILED stories in the boys (as adults mind you) got spanked by Pa or by each other. And then insisted that other people were perverts.

Uh huh...

From: [identity profile] dlasta.livejournal.com

Seriously, Bonanza????:)

I feel all educated now.:D

Somehow I hadn't considered this. Probably because I skipped most of those stories and just re-read the one where Rodney made girls come by kissing them or whatever.

Anyway, yeah. The whole incident is rather sad. Mostly obnoxious, though.

From: [identity profile] dlasta.livejournal.com

To her defense, she made most of those stories work. It's just that after ten, twenty of those things in a row it gets pretty obvious what's what.
*Awkward*.:)

Stephenie Meyer is rolling in her grave right now. No, wait, Anne Rice is rolling in her grave, Smeyers is just crying in a corner.:D
They've been out-flounced.:/
