Now I don't watch Starsky and Hutch. I mean, I've seen glimpses growing up, and of course the horrible remake movie. But I get the gist. Cop partnerships are gay. (Perhaps I should make that read, closer than a lot of marriages, but gay is quicker). I'm reccing this vid anyway. Mostly just because it's fun. It's got a silly song choice and quick editing, and oh yes, the ending.

The Ending makes this vid totally worth it. Why yes, that is *Ray Kowalski* in a Starsky/Hutch vid. Heeee!

The Real Slim Shady

This vid was really well done. I loved the montage at the end with all the TV "dicks," one after the other in succession, with the exception of Cagney and Lacey! You know, I had an idea. Why isn't there an SGA sort of show, except that you have a Moonlighting sort of dynamic between a intelligent, articulate woman (there's a thought!) and a cocky bastard (aka Bruce Willis). I think it would really sell. I think smart women want to see smart women on the screen, and yet all these screenwriters are fucking MEN, and they think with their dicks instead of their brains. So we get all these semi-interesting men and no interesting women!

No they offer up one or two "smart" chicks...who actually remind me of the women in 50's sci-fi movies, who were always supposed to be doctors and scientists but really just wore tight skirts and heels.

Sigh.

It is then, our responsibility, to write awesome chicks.

When it ought to be everyone's.

Though TV for the most part has either really extreme (male) characters now or boring cookie cutter ones.

Or the brainy ones with the glasses who are never the love interest but supply the answers when needed. UGH!

What would have happened to SGA if you'd had a woman in the Sheppard role (although I absolutely fricking ADORE JoeFlan), let's be novel, have her be black and smart. Or chicana and smart (like JLo in Out of Sight). Even sexy, because JoeFlan is sexy, but have her be TORTURED like JoeFlan. Have all this history, and yet the smarts and the come backs. We can keep the Rodney character, and yet you have this energy between them. Why do you have to have the intelligent women in the bustiers, like what they did to Rachel Luttrell. The Teyla character had hints of awesomeness. They made her the physical superior to Sheppard, but then they clothed her in tight, cleavage exposing tops. WHYWHYWHY!

And please do not get me started on the POTC franchise. I swear that you mention the name "Jerry Bruckheimer" and I start kicking walls.

Ergh. That corset line!

Don't get me started on the Oscars. Women win for playing hookers or women in tight tops, men win for playing either someone DD or gay.

(Dear Sean Penn, fuck off)

My friend Kelli, a film major, often says that if they ever had a black man playing James Bond, he'd have to be funny all the time. Otherwise it would freak people out. They can't handle the complexity.

Agree, because the most successful Bonds have an edge of violence about them (why Craig is so good) and to have a black man have that edge would be too frightening, as in getting "uppity" as a Republican said about Obama during the campaign. They'd have to Step and Fetch It him for the concept to work.

Someone needs to write that. Be totally hot.

(yes okay I really need to stop thinking fantasy violence is hot. Though at least I know the difference between fantasy and reality)

I think fantasy violence has a definite role. There are few ways to legitimately introduce tension in something and violence is extremely effective. Even in Agatha Christie we have the "threat" of violence, even though it's off screen most of the time.

Ahahahahaha! Thanks for the link.

I did watch S & H when I was growing up. I still love it. And RayK was absolutely correct: despite the fact that he's the blond one, he's Starsky and Fraser's Hutch. :)

I am sure I would enjoy the show now. If only a channel was playing it.
