You get their update/protection program thing because of latest virus hooha (which if i were being paranoid, i would say they released just to make people buy it) and they make you jump through all these hoops.
*Then* you buy it, but the program itself is designed to constantly glow red and say you're at risk unless you sign up for their subscription thing too, which they don't advertise that way, so instead you spend hours trying to figure out why/how you're supposed to "finish installing" the program without paying through the nose for the subscription thing, only to realize that you don't need the subscription thing, they are just phrasing it that way to drive you crazy.
