Random Ideas of Sin-related thought: The reason I cannot do a sequel type deal yet is because I think Etienne, despite being mine, is beyond my skillz at this point. He is fucked up and scheming and while I admire the fucked up, the scheming is difficult as I am not a schemer.

That being said, I'm off two minds on what such a sequel might involve. There are two possible story arcs for the Saint-Cyr and both are about as fucked up as he is. Not to mention both would be twisted grandiose epics along the lines of Dynasty that just might kill me in the attempt. In either one, Etienne would have to be broken down--not especially something I'm looking forward to doing. He wouldn't like it either. I'm talking completely ripped apart and shattered and I just don't know what that mean for him, in the end.

Then, should I do this, how do I keep things from dissolving into full-on soap opera? How many lines am I willing to cross for this, because oh yes, there would be a lot of Wrong in this.

Granted, there was Wrong in Ideas of Sin, but this would have to be onscreen/on page Wrong, the kind to give me ulcers and nightmares, and really, Etienne needs it but he doesn't deserve it.

Also, I'm thinking no happy ending.

Yeah, I know, that was ridiculously vague. Well if I do write it, I don't want to give everything away.

Why not give yourself permission to make mistakes? All good experimenters do, knowing fully well it's luck, not skill, that gets most things right the first time. Feel your way as your write it and trust your betas to let you know if you're going over the top; then, revise. Fiction shouldn't be safe, but you should never run from something dangerous--it only feeds the fear. *hugs* Yes, do it, by all means, don't waver or delay!

You know, it's partly just that I know how consuming it would get, and partly just the thought that maybe I was lucky with IOS, which I was a little I think. But yeah, I know I need to just...do it.

Agree with the above. I would kill for an Etienne sequel. You are allowed to mistakes, my dear. You are allowed to push that envelope. Debase him, but keep in mind the sort of happy ending I know you will provide for him. As opposed to Rene who, I think, was the lucky St. Cyr, I do believe that Etienne will need to be broken down and rebuilt because in order to survive that household, mon dieu, the layers of mental protection it must have taken.
