1. Rene wishes James would get a tattoo for him, but won't ever tell James this, because if he has to ask for it, it wouldn't be as special.
2. Rene hates Etienne with a deep and fiery passion. But when he learns of the Deniau/Etienne secks, he surprises Deniau one night with a knife and makes him promise to treat his brother with respect. (Although he does not put it in those terms).
3.(I might have mentioned this one before) One time, Mirena and Rene got really drunk and felt each other up andmaybegaveeachotherhandjobs. They do not talk about it, ever, by unspoken agreement.

1. Vorenus in his darkest, dirtiest (and thus, most truly romantic) dreams, imagines that he and Pullo are fruit farmers, with orchards of sweet fruit and the spend their days working peacfeully in same dirt that Pullo fucks him in.
2. Only women and sissies use lubricant. He will not allow it no matter how much Pullo tries to talk him into it.
3. He has a box of trinkets and treasures that he gathered for his children during his many campaigns that he was too embarrased/uncertain to give them later. So he keeps the box.

1. When Rick was younger and idealistic and always ready for a fight, he met a Spanish rebel who was fighting Franco and joined his cause. The man was older, and wise, with seductive eyes, and he taught Rick a lot of things, of which chess was only one. They were as doomed as the war against Franco, but Rick was the only one who didn't know that.
2. Rick saw Louis Renault once, a long time before he was the corrupt prefect of police in Casablanca. Rick was hiding from certain European governments in the Alps, pretending a little too well to be a bored American taking in the mountains near Italy. Renault was heading the honor guard of some official who later turned up dead. Rick watched Louis for hours one night in a dimly lit cafe that had a look he would use later, vaguely amused at the flamboyant figure who never paid for his own drinks. He was not bored once the entire time.
3. Louis knows a killer when he sees one. Rick left America because he killed a man. He was young, and only regrets it when he has been up far too late and had too little to drink. The man had it coming.
4. (1 extra) He would not have lived past the war, if not for his friendship with Louis Renault.
