If I see one more OOC non-con/outright rape fic (not to mention the people who don't get the fine distinction between the two) I'm gonna go after them and slice them to fucking pieces. It's a little insulting to have, say, Commodore Norrington rape Jack in his office to prove who is in chrage, when the act violates everything his character stood for in the damn movie. Is he under control of some Thrush-inspired mind control drug? Has he been exposed to red Kryptonite and happens to be Superman's cousin? No? Then you'd better have some other way of explaining away someone's character so grossly reversing itself.
Or in the case of the FMA ficcie I just read...do you really think Colonel Mustang would *need* to force Edward to have sex with him once a year in some weird unholy pact? Really? Honestly? Because evidence suggests that a) he's hot enough he doesn't need to compell anyone, that's canon fact, b) that the man does actually have scruples, hide them though he may, c) the Colonel is at the very least smart enough to know that should he do that, and then Ed actually gets the Stone and changes his brother back and the Colonel no longer has power over Ed, Ed is going to kill him very painfully for it, and d) should this unlikely event ever actually take place, Al would never, ever, be allowed to know about it. Ed would make sure of that. Jesus titty fucking Christ!
And as for the non-con/rape difference...let me spell this out clearly. Non-con is for the most part a seduction in which someone is forced to confront something in their own nature that turns them on that they didn't want to admit to. Look at Chapter Two of IOS for that. James might want to call it rape, and, yes, the power difference between them is great, but also consider that James is offered a choice, which he acknowledges, and that he is never actually in any physical danger. Rene would be insulted to the extreme should James have ever accused him of rape. The pressure in that scene all comes from James' head.
RAPE is not hot. There is no debate, internal or otherwise, there is no silent consent, there is only force and someone with power, and someone with absolutely no power at all.
AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
