So finishing touches on my Yuletide monstrosity (which goes something like, check email, stare at typed page, scan LJ flist, stare at typed page, get a Coke, stare at typed page etc...) and decide to reward myself by reading one of my Bday prezzie books.

Scaramouche, to be exact. I have never read Rafael Sabatini anything so I was very excited. I even read the forward which was obviously written by an idiot. (His name is Bernard Cornwell, and you all are probably going to tell me he's some sort of writer/critic/genius). But the guy kept saying how Scaramouche/Andre-Louis is this bad character, a coward and arrogant and yet you still like him and I'm about 2/3 done now and I see no such bad character. I see an incredibly intelligent guy who tries to remain distant and apart from the complete insanity that is the world but once he's in the world and starts feeling things he realizes he cannot remain distant anymore. So, obviously, Cornwell is an idiot.

Or of course, it's just that I am the sort of person who (notoriously) felt bad for Caligula and created Rene Villon so...

Yeah.

No, the guy's an idiot.
