So the Democrats, needing to blame somebody, anybody for their failure to connect with Middle America and
thus losing the election last week, are now saying that homosexuals, and in particular San Francisco's gay community, lost them the election by getting married. Basically, scapegoating a fight for civil rights and liberties and turning it into something petty. Now the gay community has to face the outright stupid, fucking hatred of the Flyover for gay marriages *and* the wrath of the party they (for the most part) sided with. The war in Iraq, which shall continue with Dickhead Jr in office, the recession, terrorism, all of these things are now being blamed on those gay couples who chose to get married a few months ago. Somehow, their acts of love and commitment are seen as being either tacky or fucking treasonous to Democrats and liberals and all those "intellectuals" out trying to defeat Bush.

For the past few years, Democrats have just been Republicans with a different spelling anyway, but this is pretty damn low, turning on an ally because their strategy failed and now they want to regain support in
Kansas and Missouri and the goddamn South. (Who needs 'em? As it said in Savage Love this week, just think of America not as a whole country but as a series of islands, like San Francisco, and New York, and Portland).

Living where I do, homophobia (*fear* seems so appropriate right now) has always been a pretty strange concept to grasp, and at times I am spoiled, imagining somehow it isn't that bad. Yeah, I'm an idiot what can I say? But seriously, operating from a logical standpoint as I do, I just don't see how anyone could that fucking stupid, that slow and brain dead knuckledragging mouthbreathing caveman *retarded* to find this at all threatening. Marriage has never been scared. It was, and still is many times, a financial contract. Only recently has the idea that it is for love become widespread, and still this is only in our culture. It is not for reproductive purposes anymore either, and the obsessions these days seems to be on the wedding and not the marriage itself. If tradition actually meant anything to people you wouldn't see brides in pure white anymore, and if you did, they would have a veil over their face to hide it from the groom who has never seen them before. Then the families could exchange money after the vows were said and the couple could dryly consummate their union and breed a little before both ran off to have lovers. That's the real tradition of marriage in Western culture. What is so fucking sacred about that?

If there is a point to my rambling little speech here, it's that we should support our gay marriage pioneers right now, they're taking a lot of shit from everyone for excerising a pretty basic right. Being a newlywed is hard enough, they don't need the added stress of uptight, repressed stupid ass hillbillies and dykey-haired midwestern housewives telling them they aren't even people.

And no, I never said I wasn't prejudiced. The South and Midwest can kiss my ass. With the exception of Iowa, for I believe that state voted logically. :)
