3:10 to Yuma Sneak Preview--sorta review

Yeah yeah, it's a remake. Yeah, it's a Western. I don't care. Ya hear me. Don't care don't care. It's Russell Crowe and Christian Bale and it's yet another storyline in which they are hard men (*snicker*) who understand each other even as they are enemies and yet come to know each other, knowing that the other man is the only person to ever really get them, to make them feel alive.....but it's totally not gay. Not at all.

Notice, I'm using an L.A. Confidential icon... Let's say certain parts reminded me of some things. Also, I have to say, every conversation Dan (Christian Bale) and Ben Wade(Russell Crowe) have together is SO Chapter Three of IOS. Seriously.

Then there's the violence and the fine mens and actors obviously enjoying the chance to do an intelligent, yet still shoot 'em up, Western. And then because the slash wasn't writing itself already (Bridal Suite, that's all I'm gonna say) they go and put in Ben Foster playing Ben's evil yet very very devoted number two man--Charlie Prince(ss) who very nearly stole the movie with his creepy love loyalty to Ben. (Though I did get the best idea ever for an icon from him. As soon as I get Photoshop again I'm making it. Stacey knows what I'm talking about).

Overall, highly enjoyable. Teh hawtness. Teh drama. Teh ghei.

Heard Crowe was AMAZING in this. I don't like him, but I always appreciate good acting. Might drag daughter as she is a Christian Bale fan.

They are both amazing actors and I think they really did this movie to have fun. He's very good.

The slash writes itself.

And Charlie Princess won me over with his creepy love.

My kind of flick.

There's an Austrlian flick that I have a copy of. Can't remember the name and it's boxed up because of remodel, but it's about a smaltzy romance with Russell Crowe (gay) and his really interfering father (in a good way). There's this uber stupid subplot where the father has a stroke. In fact, ignore the last of the film. But the point of this ramble is that Russ plays this beefy gay guy with a hard on for this fem-ish other gay guy who has commitments issues. And he'd so good in this small film. It's at the beginning of his career, and although Russ is always so butch, he's very butch and yet completely believable. I liked it muchly (the first half) . I get the sense that in real life Russ is one of those homophogic blowhards who gets tanked every Saturday night and spends his drunk laughing at anti-gay jokes with the rest of the boys. But you'd never know it from this film. Which is the mark of a great actor. His personal gestalt doesn't interfere.

Doing rewrite of book. Man, I HATE THIS BOOK. I can barely stand to look at it anymore. I have reached the point where every sentence sounds contrived to my ear. Every single one. Like, why in the fuck would anyone want to read this? It's mannered and pretentious. Ugh. I need to develop another writing style. I'm beginning to scorn my own style.

The Sum of Us. I've seen that. I loved his dad in that.

I'm sorry. They demanded a rewrite? LIke the whole thing or just certain parts? Oh wow.

There's a lovely, and short, Ray wing-fic up right now. Maybe a break will help.

Not a rewrite, just niggling little bits. I started this three years ago and there's wee disconnects as I'd pick it up, write, get disgusted, put it down, write, get depressed, not look at it for a year. When you do that, it's really hard to keep a book consistent. Who knew!

But am at the point where I just can't stand to read it anymore. All my flaws as a writer are so in my face. Plus, I'm so done with the classic mystery trope. This is so boring I'm falling asleep (when not beating myself up).

Yeah, I saw the wing!fic. I want to read that. But I should get OFF OF THE INTRANETS and start working before it gets too hot. Was only 99 here yesterday. It's very sad that I'm actually overjoyed it's not in the three digits. It's been HELL for the last week and no air conditioning yet. Electrician didn't hook up on Friday when he left for a 3-day weekend. BURN IN HELL, ASSHOLE. I do NOT do well in the heat.

Oh, ordered Broken English on my netflix queue. Yay!

Been thinking about movie...it's really like L.A. Confidential or
the relantionship between Bill the Butcher and Priest Vallon in Gangs of NY.

Just Super Gay. :P
