7 songs I'm totally into right now (regardless of how ridiculous)

1: Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart) by Ricky Nelson *ahem* [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier knows why.

2. Bedroom Toys by Duran Duran Because of that damn Man from UNCLE vid. It makes me think of Illya in that collar...

3. Gimme More by Britney Spears. *blush* Even weirder? I played it constantly when writing Sherlock Holmes pr0n.

4. Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. I've also been watching Pretty In Pink pretty constantly. I don't know what that's about. But awsum.

5. Chariot by Gavin Degraw.

6. Addictive by Truth Hurts. Cuz I gots to get my dance on.

7. Bowie's in Space by Flight of the Conchords. Because it's freaking amazing, even if you don't love Bowie (though I do). Also it makes me laugh. (Runner up being "Bret You've Got It Going On" also by FotC)

I'm going through a weird phase. I call it my whole life.

This is just to totally point out how not well-read I am for an English Major.

The top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). Bold what you have read, italicize what you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. The numbers after each one are the number of LT users who used the tag of that book.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] nigeltde

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

1. My username is _____ because ____.
Rispacooper, because that is the name by which I am called (yay for Mojo Jojo!) Or at least, the name I've been called since...oh...I was fourteen or so.

2. My journal is titled ____ because ____
Fabulous Pink Pearls, because my shiny, shiny gay brother bought me a bunch of *fabulous* pink pearl accessories one day because he said I needed more pink in my wardrobe--and it happened to be the day before I set up my LJ.

3. My subtitle is ____ because ____.
I keep my Moet et Chandon in my pretty cabinet. Um...cuz it my bff revealed that she has Killer Queen by Queen as the ringtone for when I call. Yeah. That says a lot right there. Also, I love champs.

4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
They're so Gucci. They kept saying that on this episode on Project Runway and it struck me as funny. Also, I was drunk. It's maybe a compliment, depending on how you feel about Gucci.

5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
Um...at the moment? It's always changing. Now it's Ed Exley with his guns out, looking desperate and pissed off. Cuz that's how I felt when Yahoo up and terminated my account two days ago.

(because I know Kittie is just dying to ask me something)

From [livejournal.com profile] misskittie79 (and several others)

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudo-canon.

From anything I watch/follow/write, I assume. (???)
What fandoms did you acquire in 2006?

Without a Trace
Due South (again)
Dexter (though Dexter doesn't really need fanfiction)

What fandoms did you let go of in 2006?
The Sentinel
The A-team

What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2006? Why?

Velvet Goldmine. I just can't bring myself to watch the movie, don't ask me why.

What fandoms do you intend on checking out in 2007?

How would I know? I tend to stumble into them.

What fandoms do you think you might let go of in 2007 unless things significantly improve?

the new Battlestar Galactica. The writing on that show is starting to suck big time and the Lee/Kara/Whomever fan squabbles are frakking annoying.

What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?

Due South (look how easily pulled back in you get)
The Man from UNCLE

What show impressed you most in 2006?
Dexter actually.
Then Rome, Without a Trace reruns (but see below), Bones, House (Wilson and House seriously need to get it on now)

What show impressed you least in 2006?
CSI this year, Without a Trace this newest season, Battlestar Galactica

From [livejournal.com profile] misskittie79

1) Right now, what do you feel are the 1, 2 or 3 best stories you've written since becoming/admitting you're a fanfic writer? What was it about that/those stories that really made you proud, or thrilled you about them?

1. Covet for the Count of Monte Cristo. Not great by my standards now, but the first fanfic I even remotely attempted to take seriously. (I should put that in quotes I think, because I did obsess about my earlier fanfic, but I never thought of them as anything but fun...except for maybe that Epic That Dare Not Speak Its Name...shush, pooks). To "take seriously" in the sense of reading the book, watching the movie, trying to make this Fernand composite from both sources. Trying to actively make the villain likable, or at least understandable and yet keep him a villain, which, if I had ever done that before, I had never done it on purpose. But it was Guy *frakking* Pearce and that level of fucked-upness in his acting required some sort of action on my part. Plus, Pooky challenged me to do it and I wrote it in a day and a half--a record for me. First fic I ever got rec'd too. :)

2. Proof of Life; or, Taste the Humanity. New Battlestar Galactica. Because we wanted dirty bathroom sex and kinks I had never really attempted before (specifically, Gaeta's fixation on the blood). Because I took a character without much background at all and really tried to think about it. There were rumors at the time that Gaeta was a Cylon, and I found that really intriguing. Did he know, did he not? Did he feel guilt? Envy at the humans? Confusion? Curiosity? Some of all of that? I wanted a sense of that in the porn without actually answering the question. And because I kept making Gaeta reference Walt Whitman in really strange ways. Which amused me anyway.

Also, Lee is HAWT. And I enjoy the chance to use modern language occasionally.

3. Umm...and then either Part 4 of Moves and Motion, for POTC, or, weirdly, the crackfic crossover of IOS and POTC. Both were sort of challenges, and challenges I actually accept are usually because they are not something I've done before or just seem impossible. Part Four was for [livejournal.com profile] pir8fancier who wanted shaving kink. And though it didn't involve anything other than just regular old face shaving, so I don't know how kinky it was, I still wanted to convey the general intimicy of the moment. The incredibly personal, relaxed moment that Jack stole his way into, and how embarrassed Norry really was, and tempted. *squirm* I have this tendency to have characters having these really layered (though unrealistic, probably) conversations, saying a lot of things at once, and I wanted them to be doing that again, but have Norrington be naked and knowing it. The contrast is pretty fucking awesome. He's trying to keep his defenses up, but it's hard for him. And Jack knows it, and though Jack tries to take advantage of the weakness, naturally, he can't. Cuz he is also distracted by the nekkid Norry, and cuz Norry ain't the type to allow himself to be taken advantage of. Even if he is naked and wet and blushing under a pirate's gaze.

Which of course turns Jack on more. Which turns Norrington on more...and...and...*ahem*

But the Crackfic I am proud of because I had to impossible universes to mix and I had to imagine Norrington's fate, and what Norrington had become, and yet keep the story from becoming too sad. I got yet another of my layered conversations, which was a little too Victorian of me I suppose, to have people keep circling around the truth without actually saying it out loud, but which was *quite* challenging. I basically got to invent a new Norry. Which was most pleasing.

2) What Professional writer (that is, paid author) would you love to see write a fanfiction story? What ship or fandom? Tell me a little about it.

Um... I just read Bridget Jones' Diary 2, so I would like to see Helen Fielding write Sparrington. Twould amuse me greatly.

3) What show/cartoon/kid's book from your childhood would you be amused to see in fanfiction? Would you consider writing one for this early love?

Pirate's of Dark Waters!!! (oh wait...)

4) Is there a fanfic of yours you'd like to see made into a Broadway show? Tell me about it!( "_____________: the Musical!"

Ooooh. I am gonna have to say Sparrington again.

5) Think about it--what could possibly be the WORST crossover out there? A story that Should Never Be Written? Hamtaro/V? Lost/Gilligan's Island? Come up with your most terrible pairing!

Type your name in Google and then type in 'needs' after it.

:Why are mine so much dirtier than everybody else's?:

Wendy needs your assistance.

Wendy appears almost incapable of doing as she's told.

Wendy needs at least 5 days advance notice for this process.

Wendy needs more than one piece of equipment. *immature giggle*

Wendy needs a patient, loving, and committed family to who can provide structure and support.

Wendy needs more chairs for these oral sessions. (??)

Wendy needs to fix an old road or build a new one.

Wendy needs a little time to dress her boy up and take him out on parade. (I really hope they are talking about dogs...OH, it's a music lyric. Still disturbing.)

Wendy needs her energy for crashing cocktail parties, scoring drugs, and fending off passes from Matt's cronies.

(Just before her big day) Wendy needs to calm her nerves with a fuck. (The plot of a porno. the rest of the description is amazing).

Wendy needs to knit.

From Pir8fancier's Interview Meme:

(in which people respond to this and ask me to interview them, then i get to ask them 5 original questions and they must post replies on their LJs)

Okay, Rispa. Rubbing my hands together in glee.

1. It is the reign of Elizabeth the First. You are the ambassador from France, and you have just received word of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre and that Henry IV has renounced Protestanism. You are told you have an audience with the Queen. Now! You walk into the room and everyone is dressed, head to toe, in mourning. "As you see, Ambassador," she says. "We are in mourning. Why are *you* not?"

"One doesn't dress to mourn the dirt swept away when cleaning house." (I am going to hell for that, if not causing a war...)

2. How much historical research did you do for "Sins?" Whew. Well it depends. Some things I already knew from various classes. Mostly I researched specific problems I'd encounter (i.e. pants versus trousers versus breeches, or were forks used yet...turns out, no, not really). And language questions. I *heart* linguistics sometimes and went a little crazy making sure they were only using words that were around and in use at the time, not to mention words that each character would have in their own personal lexicon. James, for example, could probably name certain parts of a lady's dress. Rene on the other hand? Doesn't know, doesn't care.

3. Do you heavily outline your writing or do you let the muse take you where it will? I have ideas...let me capitalize that. Ideas. Characters come first, then maybe scenes, a few snatches of dialogue, settings... It's difficult for me to plot because I'm rarely about action. I love action I just can't seem to write it. Hmmm I usually start with a beginning very well thought out, and a vague notion of the ending. Then I take 3 years just to write it down. (ack! flashback to senior thesis). I wouldn't say the muse takes me so much as the characters start to do what they like. If a scene isn't going how I want, after a lot of swearing and punching things, I usually realize that it's because it wasn't true to the characters as they have become. Maybe to the characters I started out with, but I tend to forget that they've changed through the chapters.

4. If you had a week to play with time, which era would you transport yourself back to and what sex would you be and why? Regency England (ah my teenage years and all those romance novels). I would be a lady...well a woman...I don't know about a lady. The women who rebeled or were different in that time were quite interesting. Courtesans and spies...the Napoleanic Wars going on and all this intrigue and danger everywhere. The birth of the feminist movement, in a really strange way, and the age of the Writer, when Poets were Rockstars.

5. Where's your favorite place to get Mexican food? El Charro in Lafayette

From Tanacawyr--

What story/vid/art/whatever creative output of yours do you think is the most underappreciated?

What piece of work have you done that garnered little attention, in any fandom, that you really want people to notice?

Here's a chance to pimp your own ride, people -- name a work of yours that for whatever reason, you feel fell through the cracks and see if you can get other people to consume it.

Hmm, not that I think they are good, but any fic I've done for The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne. I honestly don't know if they are good or in character or not, I have never received any remarks on them. It's a small, cliquish fandom, but even negative feedback would be nice. First I was trying to get a feel for the characters (I even started this long epic that I finally gave up on just because no one seemed to care and I couldn't decide if I was getting the people right). And then I was just interested in getting to know Phileas' dark side. Or perhaps mine. Who knows. Absence of Light in particular was my first, and then Blinded and in between those I set a few scraps of stories I never posted in that same universe.

Anyway...I make the worst pimp ever.

I was told today however that I would make a good pirate. A totally unsolicated comment. !!!!
